1 Tip - on life with your dog
Build your dogs confidence by providing opportunities to use their most powerful sense the Nose. Scatter large (1cm x 1cm) treats onto a mowed lawn, watch your dog locate every treat. The success of finding the treats is mentally challenging and rewarding which creates a positive feedback loop, further building their confidence. It's a win/win.
1 Idea - on the leading edge
Each species has its own reality, shaped by how it perceives and interacts with the environment through its unique senses. It's called 'Umwelt', coined by biologist Jakob von Uexküll.
Dogs view their world through their sense of smell, whereas we view the world mainly through sight. This means the world smells much richer to a dog. They pay attention to specific aspects of the environment - the pee mail left by 'Cody the Rottie' from down the road. Think of the Umwelt as a personal filter through which your dog experiences the world. It's not a lesser version of our own perception, just a different way to perceive the world around them. Go on let them sniff!
