On 'Alert' Barking

1 Tip - on life with your dog
Does your dog 'Alert' bark to warn you about something and you wish they wouldn't? Calmly go where they are, check out what they're barking at, and reassure them with a gentle 'It's okay' and 'Thank you', then 'Come on' and go inside or away from whatever they are barking at, for a treat (NB: use any words that suit you but keep them consistent). They'll learn you have everything in hand and they won't need to constantly raise the alarm. No, you will not reward the barking, yes, you will reassure your dog that they are safe.
1 Idea - on the leading edge
Is my dog fat? The Knuckle test:
1. Lightly run your fingers over your knuckles as you make a fist. If you imagine those knuckles are your dog's ribs, that would be too thin.
2. Put your palm up, fingers extended facing the ceiling. Run your fingers over the base of your fingers - this is too heavy.
3. Turn your hand over, palm down and feel over your knuckles. When your pet's ribs feel like this, it's just right - healthy, lean dog body condition.
