On the Benefits of a Hand Target

1 Tip - on life with your dog

A dog's head and body will naturally follow where their nose goes. Teaching your dog to hand target is a simple way to get them to stay focused on your cues.

Start by making a small chopping motion with your hand in front of your dog. When they look at your hand, reward them with a treat. Practice regularly until your dog consistently touches their nose to your hand then add a cue like 'touch'.

Hand targeting strengthens your bond and gives you a powerful tool to communicate where you want your dog to go and be.

1 Idea - on the leading edge

There are approximately 900 million dogs worldwide, with 75% of them being free-roaming or village dogs. These self-reliant dogs often live near human communities, facing challenges like hunger, zoonotic diseases, and competition for resources. Despite these hardships, studies consistently show that their friendliness and cooperative nature contribute to their survival.
