On getting to know your dog

1 Tip - on life with your dog
Genuine engagement with your dog improves their well-being and develops calmness. It's not just sharing the same space while watching television; it's about doing things your dog enjoys. For instance, a game of tug, playing 'find it,' or relaxing together on the lawn, free from screens. By investing time with your dog, you'll learn about their preferences. Along with observing their body language, you'll develop a deeper connection and have a calmer, more balanced dog as a companion.
1 Idea - on the leading edge
Dogs don't generalise skills easily. They need to practice the same behaviour in various locations to understand that it's a consistent action, not just something they do in one place, like the kitchen. The goal is for them to understand, 'This is what I always do.' Practice new behaviours regularly and in lots of different places, keeping sessions short, around five minutes, to maintain focus.
1 Quote - on dogs
Good training is not about controlling your dog’s behaviour; it’s about teaching your dog to function successfully in your home and in human environments in general. Unleashing your dog. Bekoff & Pierce
