On meeting dogs on lead

1 Tip - on life with your dog

When your dog is on lead, please don't force them to greet other dogs; it's better to move to the side and position yourself between your dog and the oncoming dog. Especially if they are pulling toward each other, staring, or are overexcited.

1 Idea - on the leading edge

Dogs are excellent communicators with one another; they'll spot each other at a distance and begin signalling their intent. A look away is a 'you don't need to worry about me' signal, accompanied by a sudden urge to sniff the ground. They may also begin to move in a slow, arching motion. In dog language, arc greetings are polite; it is impolite to greet another dog directly as some adolescent dogs might do.
