On socialising your dog

1 Tip - on life with your dog
Your young dog is a sponge - every experience shapes who they'll become.
Help them become calm and adaptable with positive exposure to:
People: Different ages, appearances, voices, and ethnicities
Animals: Friendly vaccinated dogs, cats, and other pets
Surfaces: Grass, gravel, sand, carpet, tiles - let them experience it all
Environments: Busy streets, parks, stores, car rides
Sounds: Vacuum cleaners, doorbells, construction noise, bicycles
Let your puppy's body language guide you.
Soft body and tail wagging? Perfect!
Cowering or hiding? Create distance and go slower.
The goal? A confident dog who greets life with curiosity.
1 Idea - on the leading edge
Between 8 and 20 weeks, puppies are naturally curious about new experiences. Miss this critical socialisation window, and you're working against their development timeline.
Missed the early weeks? Don't panic.
Dogs adapt throughout their first year and beyond with the right approach:
Go slower - what takes one exposure at 10 weeks needs five at 9 months
Make it extra positive - high-value treats, toys, lots of praise
Read stress signals - older dogs express anxiety more clearly
Be patient - it takes longer but works
Late socialisation beats no socialisation. Your older puppy or rescue can still become confident and adaptable - it just requires more intention and time.
