On teaching calm behaviour around other dogs

1 Tip - on life with your dog
Is your dog 'too enthusiastic' about meeting every dog on walks? Try this:
Use a long line, it gives room to explore and keeps them close.
When they spot a dog, get their attention with a bright call and a treat.
If you can't get their attention, you are too close to the other dog, move away and try again.
Reward them for looking at you, taking attention away from the dog.
With practice they'll learn other dogs mean rewards, and they'll come to you instead.
This helps your dog focus on you, even when dogs are around.
1 Idea - on the leading edge
Socialisation isn't about meeting everyone; it's about your dog comfortably navigating their world, respecting personal space, and not overwhelming strangers.
1 Quote - on dogs
A poorly socialised but friendly dog can easily start a fight he's not looking for. If I ran up to every stranger I met, sooner or later, someone would punch me in the face. Chad Makin
