On chewing your stuff

1 Tip - on life with your dog
There are a few reasons why dogs chew and destroy your stuff. 1. They are teething (under 6 months), 2. they enjoy the sensation, think tactile in the mouth, squishy or soft, 3. they're expressing an innate need, chewing is a normal part of the predatory sequence, or 4. they are bored, frustrated...
1 Idea - on the leading edge
If your dog is destroying things, there are a few things you can try: 1. Teething (13-20 weeks) is painful; buy some raw cannon bones, and let your puppy have unrestricted access. 2. Chewing is rewarding regardless of age or motive. Add natural chews (no plastic) to their daily diet. 3. It's a natural part of the predatory sequence; let them chew that stick (safely, of course). 4. For stimulation, add a stuffed Kong to your dog's enrichment activities, try hiding it in the garden or behind the couch for some added foraging. 5. Pick up after yourself 😁!

Barking, chewing, sniffing, licking, jumping up... is as normal and natural for dogs as wagging tails and burying bones. Jean Donaldson, The Culture Clash.
