On doing nothing

1 Tip - on life with your dog

Can your dog settle or are they often coming to you for reassurance, interaction, activity? Try doing nothing with them. Lie on the ground next to your dog and rest, no phone, no interaction, no chat. You'll find your dog will settle too. If the ground is too much on the ground, sit on a chair nearby and do the same, nothing.

1 Idea - on the leading edge

We do a lot for our dogs: the walks, the enrichment, the training. What if doing less was actually doing something too?

Calm is a skill, and like most skills, they get better with practise. If your home is noisy, if there's always activity, chat, a phone in hand, then doing nothing might be something your dog needs to practise and you too!.

When you choose stillness, you create space for calm to happen. Your dog's nervous system takes its cues from yours. Lower your pace, lower the noise, and watch what your dog does next.

Rest isn't a reward you've earned at the end of a busy day. It's part of how you manage your dog's environment, and yours.
