1 Tip - on life with your dog
Just brought your new adult dog home? Give them access to your home slowly. Start with one or two rooms, set up a crate or bed and keep things quiet. Let them get used to the smells and environment before even taking them for a walk.
1 Idea - on the leading edge
Welcoming an adult dog into your home takes time. The best approach is to go slowly, set up one or two rooms for them to get to know. Introduce them to the family one at a time. Keep them at home for the first three days, letting them get to know the smells and sounds of the house. Move slowly and quietly, give them time to rest, listen and keep things predictable: fresh water, toilet breaks, and a routine. In this way, you are setting them up for success. The same as you would with a puppy, make their firsts in their new home positive. When you do take them for a walk, go slowly and not far, a 10 -15 minute walk with lots of sniffing is enough.
